BOGAN CARL DEES | The Sumter Item

He was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Camden. He became a Sumter resident as a teenager. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He served his country in the U.S. Army, including time spent overseas during the Korean War.Bogan was on the go in Sumter and surrounding communities in the bread delivery business with Claussens and Sunbeam. He later ventured into private business as the owner of a motel and multiple rental properties. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Sumter, a member of the Brunson Sunday School Class, and served as a greeter and usher for 35 years, always having candy in his pocket to hand out to everyone.Bogan enjoyed lake and ocean fishing, golfing, camping, watching college and professional sports and rooting for the Gamecocks. Later in life, he shared life stories and current events with his "coffee club" most mornings at a local Hardee's and also attending local auctions.He was a member of Sumter American Legion Post 15 and enjoyed working at the P-15 baseball games, volunteering and participating in Veteran's Day parades, and as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He was proud to be chosen to participate in an Honor Flight to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.Survivors include his wife, Patsy Dees; two children, Lee Ann Dees Bostic (Charles) of Sumter and Gregory Carl Dees (Lauri) of Blythewood; four grandchildren, Lauren Locklear (Chris) and Chas Bostic (Kelley), both of Sumter, and Brent Dees and Ryan Dees, both of Blythewood; one great-granddaughter, Grace Ann Locklear; one stepson, Pat Sears (Suzann); one stepdaughter, Julie S. Hanford; and four step-grandchildren, John Patrick Sears, McLendon Sears, Anna Hanford and Harris Hanford.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hall Dees; two sisters, Lucille D. Mathis and Mary D. Bond; and three brothers, Samuel T. "Dick" Dees, William "Willie" Dees and James E. Dees.The family will receive friends from 1 t... (Sumter Item)

Rev. William (Bill) C. Tribble

William (Bill) C. Tribble went to be with his savior March 5, 2018 at his home in Social Circle. He was born in Atlanta on January 6, 1925 to William and Ruth Tribble. He accepted Christ as his Savior at age 15 and felt from then the call to the ministry.He served in the Navy Airforce during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Mildred Harris in 1943 and they had five children. The first Barbara Gail died as an infant and the youngest child Randy died of cancer at age seven. He lost his eldest son Billy in 2016. After the war and with a family to support he put his calling on hold and became an electrical contractor in the city of Atlanta. He and his partner had a very successful business but in 1957 he sold the business and moved his family to Macon where he attended Mercer University.Rev. Tribble took his first pastorate at Marshallville Baptist Church where he served for six and half years. He then became pastor of First Baptist Social Circle, GA for the next 27 years. After retiring he held many interims, serving more than 12 churches over the next 19 years. Rev. Tribble received an honorary doctorate degree from the International Bible Institute and Seminary and was Pastor Emeritus at Social Circle First Baptist. Many knew him around the area through his teaching at the Georgia Extension Program during 20 years on staff and served on the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee and Vice Chairman of the Administration Committee for several terms. Preaching and teaching in Japan and Hong Kong was a highlight of his career. Preacher Tribble was loved by many for his kind and compassionate heart. When asked what it took to stay at one church for so many years he replied, “Just Love Them”.He is survived by his loving wife Mildred of 75 years of marriage.
